Nisyros is blessed with not having an airport.  Although many think of this as a downside, it means that Nisyros has managed to retain it's unique Greek Island character for centuries.  People are honest, hospitable and have a zest for life.  The closest airport is in Kos and Nisyros is a couple of hours boat ride away.

Although tourists visit Nisyros regularly during the summer months, it's usually just for a day trip from holiday makers from Kos and other larger islands.  Nisyros is however the perfect escape from the rat race of urban society.  It is almost like going back in time to a bygone era.

Nisyros has a major advantage over other holiday destinations and that is the people of Nisyros, who themselves have remained "simple" in their honesty and they preserve their traditions with religious zealousness, a proud hospitable people always happy to help.

So if you're after the luxury of a first class hotel, then you've come to the wrong place.  Nisyros has several hotels and apartments, studios and pensions, all well maintained in quaint village style, some are just traditional houses for rent but all are beautiful in their simplicity, clean and looked after.  Most are family run which guarantees a warm reception and service second to none.  One thing's for sure.  A visit to Nisyros stays close to your heart for the rest of your life, as does the island and its people.
